Losing friends in recovery

In May I lost one of my dearest friends to COPD. Went to visit him in the hospital the next I know we are in Hospice saying goodbye. Today I was told that another near and dear friend took his own life this weekend. Both had years of sobriety. My heart just aches right now.

This is the second most difficult thing to overcome in recovery. Close behind losing a child or family member. Keep the faith and stay close. It is wonderful that you have the courage to share this on the Forum.

Hey Brenda, yes I do know (at least hope) this to shall pass. My first time in recovery I lost my best friend to Aids, and my father, the second time I lost my mother. So needless to say I probably take it a little harder than the average person. You know how much Kenny meant to me. He was my mentor, my father, my confidant. Hard to talk at meetings without mentioning him these days.

And then there is Marshall also hard not to mention his influence on my sobriety and the good times we had. Actually its hard not to talk about all the people back in AZ who have loved and supported me over the last 9 years. I feel so far away sometimes.

I have lost one brother, two cousins and seven friends to their use of alcohol and other drugs these past 10 years.........their lives end, but the memory of them do not.

Hey Kevin, hope all is well. Things are moving well here, we have added an acupuncturist, medical massage and Yoga/stretching program. Would be great to have you visit for a few days and join in with your martial arts program as a guest instructor.

Is this the same person that you sent the email on? Wow small world if so.
